Available to current Society members to support academic career development for both clinical and non-clinical academics in areas of addictions study which further the declared aims of the SSA.

Providing the opportunity to pursue a PhD in addiction science registered at a UK university and hosted at an appropriate organisation which, in the opinion of the Trustees (or officers with devolved authority), furthers the aims of the SSA. The SSA aims to provide up to two full-time studentships per year.

To support our strategic aim, 'to harness and communicate the evidence base to inform policy and practice', this prize will be awarded, at our Annual Conference, to an individual who has produced innovative work influencing policy and/or practice in the field of addiction.

This event aims to bring together PhD students studying addiction-related topics so they can network, present their work in a low-key, supportive environment and share their ups and downs. It welcomes full and part-time students, studying in a range of disciplines including social sciences, laboratory sciences and health services research.

Funding grants are available to third sector workers and volunteers, service users, conference helpers and unwaged students wishing to present.

Awarded at the annual SSA Conference to a researcher who is in the early or mid part of her or his career who has made a significant and specific contribution to the addictions field in recent years. The recipient of the prize will receive £2,000 and a certificate, while they will be invited to present his or her research at that year's Conference.
