Reductions in smoking and drinking prevalence among Czech Republic adolescents
The European School Survey Project on Alcohol and Other Drugs (ESPAD) has reported that alcohol and tobacco use among adolescents in the Czech Republic has reduced in the past 5 years. Data from the survey indicate that the proportion of 15- to 16-year-olds who smoke dropped from 16.5% in 2015 to 10% in 2019. The proportion of adolescents buying alcohol dropped from 84% to 42%, while those using illicit drugs fell to levels last recorded in the mid-1990s. The decrease is being attributed to online activities diverting adolescents away from alcohol, tobacco and illicit drug use.
